Detailed 3 Days Chimpanzee Tracking in Uganda : Kibale Forest
This 3 Days Kibale forest chimpanzee tracking starts from Entebbe kampala and ends in Entebbe international airport , its can be tailored with optional extensions to go gorilla trekking in the wilderness of Bwindi Impenetrable national park in south western Uganda.
Day 1. Transfer to Kibale forest national park
The guide will pick you from the airport or your hotel in Entebbe /Kampala and transfer to Kibale forest national park. The journey will take you around 5-6hours via the Kampala- Mubende- Fort Portal highway. As you drive, you will have a view of Uganda’s country side and see how the people outside the city live. As you drive through the forest to your lodge, you will expect to spot some primates like monkeys, baboons on the road side. Lunch will be held in fort portal, and proceed to kibale forest Camp.
Day 2. Chimpanzee trekking, bigodi walk
After an early breakfast at the camp, you will drive to the park headquarters. The park ranger guide will brief you about the activity and then set out in to the forest to look for the chimpanzees. The activity will take between 4-6hours. As you trek the chimps, you will expect to spot other primates like baboons, and some monkey species that live in the forest. You will also expect to spot various bird species that live in the park.
You will expect to spot the chimpanzee jumping from one tree branch to another as they go about their daily activities. You will have to follow the chimps as you take the photos because unlike the gorillas, you will not find the chimps in one place. You will then return to the camp, refresh and have lunch.
In the late afternoon, you will do the bigodi walk which take you to the bigodi swamp. This takes around 2 hours. As you move, you will expect to spot some primate species that live in the forest like monkeys, some bird species. If you are lucky, you might spot the rare shoebill stork, purple breasted sunbird, African pitta, Abyssinian ground thrush, Collared Apalis, Black capped apalis, Crowned eagle, Green breasted pitta, Kingfishers, Weavers, Cuckoos, Hornbills, Papyrus Gonoleks, Flycatchers, Black bee eater, among others.
Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3. Transfer back to Kampala
After breakfast at the camp, you will check out and drive back to Kampala. The driver will drop you at your hotel in Kampala /Entebbe or at the airport for your flight back home.
