Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, or ‘Chimp Island’, is home to over 40 orphaned or rescued chimpanzees who are unable to return to the wild. Humans are confined to one of the 40 hectares while the chimps wander freely through the rest, emerging from the forest twice a day for feeding at 11am and 2.30pm. This coincides with visitor arrival times to the island, with viewings of the chimps via a raised platform.

Detailed 4 Days Gorilla Trekking & Chimpanzee Tracking – primate Safari experience.

Day 1: Pick up from Entebbe or Kampala and transfer to Bwindi National Park

Depart from Kampala/ Entebbe at 7:00am in the morning for Bwindi forest national park located in south western Uganda which is known to be the best gorilla habitat in the region of East Africa that is not located within the Virunga region.  A brief stop at the Equator allows time for photographs and few minutes’ relaxation on the equator as your enjoying a simple drink (Juice).

The 7 -8 hours journey from Kampala to Rushaga section or Buhoma Sector  allows en route views of the long horned Ankole cattle  near Lake Mburo National Park  and as well as the fascinating scenery of Kabale with rolling hills adorned with terraces.

You will arrive in Bwindi National Park Lodges in the evening and check in at your booked accommodation in Gorilla Mist camp, Lake Mutanda or Rushaga Gorilla Camp.   Meal Plan – Full Board (FB)

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking / Gorilla Habituation in Bwindi National Park

Clients that will have booked Gorilla Habituation experience be on sure deal that this 4 days gorilla habituation safari will lead you to Rushaga sector where gorilla habituation is done.

As it’s well-advertised that the day is either dedicated for gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation experience in the famous Bwindi Impenetrable national park. The Bwindi National park is divided into 4 sectors; Rushaga Sector, the Ruhija, Buhoma and Nkuringo but on this gorilla safari you will be visiting Rushaga if its gorilla habituation but for trekking clients it will depend availability of the permits in any sector.

After Early morning breakfast, you will report to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing by UWA park rangers. Proceed thence to trek gorillas in this mist covered dense forest which is one of the oldest tropical forests to have survived through the last ice age.

Once you get sight of them, you have an hour to look at them if you’re for gorilla trekking and four hours for gorilla habituation experience, admire and observe their behavior while taking photos, you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

Day 3: Transfer to Entebbe

After morning Breakfast at the lodge, you will depart for the 7 hours’ drive to Entebbe where you will spend an overnight awaiting for the trip to Ngamba Island for the chimpanzee viewing experience.

Have lunch in Mbarara and proceed after lunch to arrive in Entebbe in the evening hours and dinner and overnight at African Gorilla Guest House or Karibu Guest House. Meals on B/b

Day 4: Transfer to Ngamba Island for Chimpanzee Viewing

You will be picked from your hotel in Entebbe after your breakfast and taken to Wildlife Education centre for a boat cruise to Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary; home to the orphaned chimpanzees.

Arrive in time to catch up with their lunch hour as they respond to the call of the bell and gather near the fence to be fed on fruits. You will also take a walk to the laboratories as well as the theatres where the sick chimps are treated. After your lunch, return to the main land and relax in Entebbe beach waiting for the flight back home
